In Octacore, death is permanent. There is, unfortunately, no way to change that.
 
....Or is there?
 
Typically, when your character dies, for all intents and purposes you have dropped the character, and they will remain dead in-universe until they are re-applied for. A character who has died cannot be applied for again until a two week period has passed. This is to make sure there is enough time for IC reactions, as your character will be assumed to be either missing or dead.

There is a 3-day grace period after dropping to change your mind. People found abusing this feature to get around the consequences of characters dying in the game may receive punishment.

Dropping the character (through death or otherwise) means you lose all claim to them. Anyone may reapp this character once your drop is official and the grace period is over. You may reserve and re-app that character, but others may also challenge your application. 
Rarely, there may be events where the mods lift the death rule to allow massive casualties. People who opt into such events will not have to pay any penalties other than any described in the event.

<center><big>DEATH REWRITING</big></center>
 
If you wish for your character to die for plot purposes, but don't want to risk losing control of them you may purchase a death token from the barter system. These tokens are mod permission for a death plot, but you still need to make sure all other pieces are in place to use it:

<ol><li> Kaguya can only save your character if there is a specific point in the timeline she can send someone back to. This would allow that person to rewrite the circumstances of your character's death. That way, your character will not remember their death; the only ones who will remember will be their CR, and the person being used as the catalyst. A catalyst is a person who was relatively near a location before/during the events of a character's death. In this way, Kaguya is able to send help to those who may need it. We encourage you discuss the possibility of being a catalyst with available CR.
 
<li>Someone must also be willing to go back and save your character to change the circumstances that lead to their dying. This person can (and should) be separate from the catalyst. Again, you need to organize with someone else in order to establish who is going back in time to conduct this rescue and what needs to be done to avoid that death. This may lead to other consequences, because you are disrupting time and it may change future events.
 
<li> Once you've figured out both of the above, you must fill out the form below and be approved. If possible, we will find a way to incorporate your character's death into other in-game events. For example, someone who burns in a fire due to a gunpowder explosion will find the gunpowder removed to another location, where it will be used to blow up a bridge or the like.
 
<li> You need prior approval to ensure you have both a token and a plan. If you have both, you will likely not be denied. However, we may need to edit the plot slightly. If you decide not to go through with it, the death token will be refunded.</ol></blockquote>

<dl><dt>Death Rewriting Permissions</dt>
<dd>Player Handle: This is the name you used to purchase your death token.
<dd>Character Name: Name of the character who is about to die.
<dd>Username: The Dreamwidth account for the character.
<dd>Death: The manner in which your character has met their end. Be as detailed as possible, including when and what territory your character is dying. Once this has been decided upon, there will be no changing this information, in case it interferes with other events.
<dd>Plan: The plan to rescue them. Be as detailed as possible. If you have trouble with this, we will be willing to assist you.</dl>

<center><big>CANON UPDATE</big></center>
 
At times you may want to "update" a character to a more recent point in their canon. While you can't currently move them backwards, canon updates are allowed.
To prevent abuse of this system, there is a one week period in which your character is missing while they're "living" their update. You update must be approved before changes can be made.
 
Note: If your update requires canon switching, such as between mediums or to other version of the story where character backgrounds, histories or even personalities may differ, we may require you to fill out a whole app form for review. In these instances, your character will not be free for others to apply for. In the even of vastly different personalities and memories, it may be decided the change is too big, and a character may need to be reapped fresh for the change to apply
