APPLICATIONS
BEFORE YOU APP
Please check the taken, reserve, and drop list before submitting your application. Remember, a character cannot be apped until at least two weeks after the previous player has dropped them. This is to allow their CR enough time to react to their disappearance. If the drop comment is still on the drop post, this character is not appable.

LIMITATIONS ON CHARACTERS
While Octacore is a panfandom game, there are a few limits on who can be apped:
Characters must have enough canon to be able to fill out the application without large quantities of headcanon.
Animals and anthropomorphic characters must be sentient, sapient, and capable of human communication.
Characters sharing the same name as another already in-game but from a completely different source are allowed - however, the canons must be significantly different from one another. Example: Oda Nobunaga from Sengoku Basara is very different from Oda Nobunaga from Samurai Warriors/Sengoku Musou, however, Nobunaga from Pokemon Conquest is the same one from Sengoku Musou. The first two are allowed at the same time, but the last two are not.
Currently, original characters are not allowed; this is likely to change in the future.
If historical or real life, they are acceptable only if a) the person is no longer living, and b) the source is fictional. Example: Abraham Lincoln from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is perfectly okay.
Characters must be apped from canons with physical copies. No web-only publications and webcomics.
All canons must have an English translation (official or fan) of source material and information for app review.

A note for Warriors Orochi characters: the mystic characters from WO are open for apping! The only characters off-limits are Orochi, Orochi X, Kiyomori, and Kaguya. All others are open. However, if you are apping a mystic, they may have potential responsibilities and/or powers nerfed for the sake of the setting - the mods will chat with you about it.

APPLICATION
PLAYER INFORMATION
⇒ Name: The handle you want to go by in the game.
⇒ Journal: Journal you reserved with. If you did not reserve, we still need a journal listed. This does not have to be a personal journal, but we do need one to identify you from other people who may use the same handle as you.
⇒ Age: Self-explanatory.
⇒ Contact: Any channels through which you wish to be contacted. AIM, email, Plurk, etc.
⇒ Characters Played: If not applicable, don't worry!
CHARACTER INFORMATION
⇒ Name: List in whatever style is appropriate for the canon, e.g. Last First names for a Japanese character. If there is no canon name, like the female protagonist from Persona 3 or the first names of the Wardens in Dragon Age: Origins, note this when choosing one. If there are multiple accepted names (such as Yu Narukami/Souji Seta from Persona 4) choose whatever you're comfortable with.
⇒ Age: Self-explanatory.
⇒ Canon: What canon your character is from, and also what medium if there are multiple versions. Anime, manga, etc.
⇒ Canon Reference: A link to information on your canon for the app team’s reference. If there’s not very much available, you are welcome to write something out, but it is not required. Again, your canon must have an English version, so we may seek out the canon in order to evaluate your app and any possible claims of OOC. Fansubs/translations of foreign media are acceptable, as long as you were not the primary translator for them.
⇒ Canon Point: The chapter/episode/book that your character will be brought from.
CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
⇒ Appearance: Link a decent sized picture for this section. If you wish to add details in writing, it is appreciated but not required. If your character is over eight feet tall, we may need to discuss some height limitations for your character within the setting. Characters will retain their original forms otherwise, but they must be sentient and capable of communication in some form.

⇒ Personality: We do not require an actual history section, but we encourage describing canon events used to flesh out the details from the personality. If a character acts in a particular way, try to tell us why by demonstrating events which support this behaviour. The minimum requirement is three hundred words, but you are more than welcome to exceed this!

We’d like to see their motivations, fears, strengths, weaknesses - those kinds of aspects discussed. What helps them to get up in the morning? What would make them what to stay in bed? Alongside these kinds of topics, we’d also like to see their closest relationships within canon discussed. You don’t have to touch upon every single one, especially if they’re a main character, but certainly discuss the people who have shaped them the most.

For characters who are coming in with previous game history, we want canon personality ONLY for this section. Any changes to this must be detailed in the next section.

⇒ Previous game history: If this doesn’t apply, feel free to disregard this section. If you are bringing in a character from another setting, we wish to see detailed here any changes in personality that they have undergone while in their previous RP setting, and any major events that shaped their character and perception on things. If your character was in a game where they picked up any other powers, we will need to know about it in this section as well.

⇒ Powers and Abilities: This is an important section for the game, so please be thorough. If your character has no way to defend themselves in the setting at all, make a note of this here; if your character doesn’t have a personality that will drive them to survive in a warzone instead, we will need to work this out with you, so it would be best to contact the mod team in advance if you think your character falls into this category.

Please discuss powers and abilities in a format that someone who is canon-blind can understand them. For example, instead of listing a Koei character’s musou abilities, explain how their attacks work, such as Yukimura’s ability to augment his physical attacks with fire.

As well as magical abilities and other powers, we’re also looking for physical abilities. If your character is trained in swordplay, that’s the kind of thing that we want to know about in this section. If they’re quick on their feet, can pick locks, sneak up on people – anything that you think will help in the setting is important to note here.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
⇒ Personal Effects: Anything that your character is bringing into the game. Aside from weaponry and vehicles, everything they bring in must be able to be carried on their person – no backpacks full of Phoenix Downs. All items are subject to mod approval, so if they have any magical properties please list those here as well. Small pets and vehicles are permitted, but if the former isn’t likely to be able to survive in the setting, we may turn down your request.

⇒ Device: You may choose and design the nature of your character's device. Keep in mind that some modes won't be available on some "devices." A magic scroll can show text, express videos as if they're hand-drawn moving images, but it would be unable to produce sound, so audio would need subtitles. Devices cannot have private functions. Private correspondence must be done by hiring a courier in-game (which translates to a leaving a message in an in-character inbox on the player's journal) or characters may meet in person. The device may be anything you wish to use, but we may remove some features for game balancing. Note, your character may keep or reuse their cellphone that they already have in canon for this purpose.
WRITTEN SAMPLES
⇒ First Person + Third person: For the samples, there are a variety of options to choose from here, as long as they meet the requirements.

"First" person: Minimum of 7-10 sentences, including any applicable actions. Most common example is an action-style network post or thread. We are not looking for a samples that's written in actual First Person Perspective, but for a dialogue with action in brackets. "Third" person: Minimum of three hundred words. Most common example is a prose log tag. This sample should be in a prose style.

You can feel free to reuse samples from previous games OR link threads from other places, such as the game’s test drive meme or other games or memes. You can also select one of the prompts from the test drive meme to use in your application without needing to thread it out, if you so choose, or you may come up with your own ideas. If you are linking outside threads they don’t need to meet the requirements in one comment, so a thread with multiple comments is perfectly fine.

It may be up to your discretion, but please keep in mind that the samples are an important part of the application, so we highly recommend doing a written prompt as well as a thread, so that we can see your thoughts on the character as well as what they're like when you put them in play. If the app team can't see the voice clearly in the thread or samples, we will ask for revisions.

When you're done, send your application to octacoreappsatgmail! Your application will be sent back with a verdict once it has received two votes of the same type. If you haven’t heard anything back within a week, please ping a mod and we’ll do our best to address it as soon as possible.

Regarding the outcome of your application, there are three possibilities:
ACCEPTED – self-explanatory! Make sure that you follow the information in your acceptance email so that you can be accepted to the communities and begin playing in the game.

REVISIONS – if there are any issues with your application, we will outline them here and ask for further elaboration on some sections of your application. We will also use this if we are concerned that your character won’t be able to survive in the setting, if we need to discuss this issue with you, or if your character’s appearance (like height) needs to be altered slightly to fit the setting.

REJECTED – if there are too many issues that can’t be covered by a revision request, we will resort to this. The app team will do their best to detail why the application doesn't fit our requirements, and we encourage you to apply again.
